The Benefits of Joining an Environmental Group in Central Missouri: Make a Difference in Your Community

Are you aged 18 to 25 and looking for a way to make a difference in your community? Joining an environmental group in Central Missouri is a great way to get involved and make a positive impact. Environmental Education (EE) provides young people with experiential learning opportunities outside the classroom, allowing them to apply their knowledge in the real world and understand the interconnectedness of social, ecological, economic, cultural, and political issues. The Missouri Environmental Education Association (MEEA) is the primary catalyst for building a growing network of environmentally aware Missourians. They advocate for programs that promote environmental protection in the context of sustainable development.

The Office of Communities, Tribes, and Environmental Assessment (OCTEA) is the point of contact for community organizations and other parties interested in environmental justice in Region 3.They offer training, certifications, and grants in EE, share valuable news and opportunities from other entities, and create networks to support the advancement of EE throughout Missouri. The EPA's Mid-Atlantic Region Environmental Justice (EJ) Program is managed by OCTEA and plays a critical role in directing and coordinating environmental justice and child health programs in the region. It also performs environmental monitoring activities, takes samples, and prepares reports (including soil, groundwater, surface water, and air) as needed to ensure compliance with permits at the city's solid waste facilities. As an adjunct professor of physical education at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, I'm passionate about inspiring future educators in this field.
